TEMPERAMENT
The disposition should be confident, courageous and alert. The Olde
English Bulldogge is a dependable
family guardian protective of his territory yet friendly toward strangers.
The dog should show a willingness to please. Some animal aggression
within sex is not unusual.
Shyness in a mature dog is a MAJOR fault.
SIZE, PROPORTION
Height at the highest point of the withers
Dogs, 17"-20"
Bitches, 15" - 19"
All points being equal, a slightly smaller or larger
dog would be a MINOR fault.
The dog should appear well balanced and proportional with no feature
exaggerated or standing out. It is a medium sized dog showing great
strength and must look like he can do his original job, Bull-Baiting
Weight
Dogs, 60lbs - 80 lbs
Bitches, 45lbs - 70 lbs
HEAD
The skull should be large, well proportioned to the
body. A narrow skull, domed forehead would be a MAJOR fault.
The circumference of the head should be at least equal to the height
at the shoulders. The stop should be deep and broad, extending up the
head and perpendicular to the layback of the nose.
The cheeks should be large, well developed with large jaw muscles.
Slightly wrinkled forehead is acceptable.
EYES
Eyes should be round and medium, set wide apart with
the outside corner of
the eye intersecting with the outside line of the skull.
They should
be set low at the level of the muzzle where the stop and muzzle intersect.
Dark eyes preferred, with black pigmented eye rims. Any pink on eye
rims is a MINOR fault.
Any other eye color is a DISQUALIFICATION.
MUZZLE
The muzzle should be wide and deep.
a) The distance from the tip of the nose to the stop should not exceed
one-third of the length from the tip of the nose to the center of the
occiput. A slightly longer or shorter muzzle is a MINOR fault.
b) Broad under the eyes and nearly parallel in width
to the line of the skull.
c) There should be moderate wrinkle on the muzzle. Excessive
wrinkle would be MINOR fault.
Nose – The nostrils should be wide with a line
running vertically between nostrils from the tip of nose down to the
bottom lip. When viewed from the side, the front of the nose should
show a moderate layback which is perpendicular with the angle of the
forehead.
a) Large and broad the relationship to the width of muzzle. Nose should
be black. Any Pink is a MAJOR fault. Any color other than Black is a
DISQUALIFICATION.
Bite should be undershot and horizontally straight,
but lips should cover the teeth. Any other type of bite is a DISQUALIFICATION.
Wry jaw is also a DISQUALIFICATION.
a) The lower jawbone is moderately curved from rear to front. A jawbone
that is flat and/or only curved in the front is a MINOR fault.
Tusks should be large.
a) Missing or chipped teeth are acceptable, except the 6 corn-row teeth
between the Tusks.
b) 6 corn-row teeth should be perfectly straight. Less
than 6 corn-row teeth is a MINOR fault.
EARS
A. Should be rose or button, with rose preferred.
B. They should be set high and wide apart to the rear of the skull.
C. They should be small to medium.
NECK,
BACK, and BODY
The Neck should be short, slightly arched and slightly
smaller than the head where the two meet. It should taper from the head
to the shoulders. It should be slightly loose from jaw to chest forming
a double dewlap. Flews should be semi pendulous. Single dewlap is a
DISQUALIFICATION.
The Back should be muscular showing power. Top-line
should have a slight roach, rising from just after the withers and upward
to the stern, then downward. The roach should make a rounded stern (over
the hips). Any other Top line is a MAJOR fault. Loin (back of rib cage
to hips) should be medium in length.
The Chest should be wide and deep with a muscular brisket. Ribs should
be well sprung and rounded being at there fullest directly behind the
shoulders. A narrow rib cage is a MINOR fault.
The Body should be sturdy. The length from tip of breastbone to rear
thigh should slightly exceed the height from ground to withers. All
points being equal, a slightly smaller or larger dog would be a MINOR
fault.
FOREQUARTERS
The Shoulders
should be heavily muscled, a separation between shoulder blades, and
slant outward from tip to bottom of shoulder blade. The shoulders should
be at a 90 degree angle from front tip of shoulder to elbow. Shoulders
should be broad and slightly wider then rear. Slightly straight front
is a MINOR fault. Loose shoulders are a MAJOR fault.
The Elbows should stand slightly away from the body but not turned outward
or loose. The forelegs should be straight, muscular and of medium bone
in proportion to the body. Too heavy or too light
bone is a MINOR fault. Loose elbows are a MAJOR fault.
The Legs should be straight vertically on inside of legs, well muscled
legs giving a bowed appearance of front quarters. Legs should be set
wide apart coming down from shoulders.
The Pasterns should be straight and strong. Weak pasterns are a MINOR
fault.
The Feet are of medium size and are well arched and rounded (cats’
foot). Long toes and splayed feet are MINOR faults.
HINDQUARTERS
The hind legs should be strong and muscular being slightly
longer than the
forelegs.
The hips and thighs should be well muscled donating power. Shoulders
and hips equal in width is a MINOR fault.
a) In a natural stance they should be straight and set wide apart but
not to appear equal to or wider then forelegs. When looking from the
rear, the legs should look like a 3 legged stool, with the back legs
appearing between front legs.
b) A properly muscled OEB will appear slightly cow-hocked
in a natural stance with a slightly outward turn of the stifles and
foot.
c) They should have good angulations in the stifles.
Poor angulations would be a MINOR fault. Cow-hocked is a Major fault.
TAIL
The tail should be set low and tapering from base to
end.
The tail can be pump handle or straight with pump handle being preferred.
If a dog is excited or alerted, it would not be unusual for its tail
to rise above the Top-line. However, the tail should be carried
down and not over the back. The length should reach the hocks or slightly
shorter. A slightly longer tail is a MINOR fault. A tail carried over
the back and/or with a full curl is a MAJOR fault.
DISQUALIFICATION is a crook, screw, bobbed or docked tail.
COAT, COLOR
The coat should be short, close and medium density.
The coat should be
shiny, showing good health.
Color can be any shade of brindle, brindle and white, pied (brindle,
fawn, red and white),
solid fawn of light and dark, solid white and red. Fringing, feathering,
curl in the coat or any color other than above is MAJOR fault.
GAIT
The gait should be a smooth rolling gait with hind legs
appearing to skim the ground.
The gait should be balanced and vigorous.
Registries:
OEBKC registered dogs are considered true Olde English
Bulldogges. Dogs with any other registration papers are NOT OEB’s
and cannot show under the breed name Olde English Bulldogge.
The Olde English Bulldogge Kennel Club is recognized
by the American Rare Breed Association as the Parent Club of the Olde
English Bulldogge.
